We’ve all been there—you found a piece of furniture that you thought would look perfect in your home, only to try it out for yourself and realize it looked entirely different in your head. (Even worse if you waited months for its arrival!) Well, that conundrum will never have to happen to again, as Pinterest has just introduced Try On for Home Decor, an augmented reality experience that will enable you to see exactly how a furnishing will look in any space, without going through the hassle of purchasing it and rearranging everything.

Starting today, Pinterest users will be able to virtually place home decor items found on their platform—including items from West Elm, CB2, Wayfair, and Crate & Barrel—in their own dwellings, using the Pinterest Lens camera.

“Since the pandemic began, we’re seeing more digitally savvy shoppers than ever before, as millions of people now expect virtual and mobile options to try before they buy, see personalized recommendations, and gather information as part of their decision making process,” Jeremy King, the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Pinterest, said in a statement. “These behaviors are happening across Pinterest every day, which is why we’re continuing to advance technologies like AR Try On and make Pinterest a full funnel shopping destination that takes people from inspiration to purchase anywhere in the app.”

80,000 shoppable home decor pins are part of this new experience. It’s not Pinterest’s first venture into augmented reality—the company also offers the same for lipstick and eyeshadow.

“We understand that the path to purchase is not always linear, especially when it comes to furniture,” said Joan King, the Senior Vice President of eCommerce and International Operations for Crate & Barrel and CB2, in a statement. “Pinterest’s Try On For Home Décor tool, is one of many examples of how our brands are exploring innovative solutions to make this journey as intuitive as possible by bridging the gap between virtual commerce and reality.”

Lens camera searches on Pinterest have increased year over year by 126%, proving that there is certainly a demand for augmented reality on this platform.
